Switchboard Upgrades in Adelaide
Old fuses and a single safety switch replaced with a modern switchboard, with every circuit protected by its own RCBO.
Signs Your Switchboard Is Due
- Ceramic Fuses: rewireable fuses with fuse wire instead of circuit breakers.
- Little or No Safety Switch Protection: one RCD or ELCB covering several circuits, or none at all.
- Nuisance Tripping: one fault takes out half the house.
- No Room to Add: a new circuit for an oven, cooktop, air conditioner or shed has nowhere to go.
- Heat or Damage: scorch marks, a burning smell, buzzing, or a board that feels warm.
- Old Backing Boards: some older switchboards are mounted on panels that contain asbestos. If yours might be one, I will tell you before any work starts.
From One ELCB to an RCBO on Every Circuit
Many older boards have several circuits sharing one ELCB, an early type of safety switch. I replace that with an RCBO on every circuit, so each one has its own overload protection and its own safety switch. A fault on one circuit only switches off that circuit, and the rest of the house stays on.
How the Job Runs
- Look and Quote: I check the board, the circuits and the earthing, and give you a clear price.
- Book a Time: the power is off while the board is changed, so I plan it around you, or around your tenants.
- Change Over: the new board goes in, every circuit is labelled and everything is tested.
- Certify: you get a Certificate of Compliance for the work.
Common Questions
The Things People Ask Me
How long will the power be off?
Usually part of a day, depending on the size of the board and the number of circuits. I will tell you before I start.
Do I need a whole new switchboard to get safety switches?
Not always. If the board has room and is in good condition, safety switches can sometimes be added to it. If it is old, full or damaged, an upgrade is the better fix.
